Hands-On Teaching

STAFF SERGEANT KEITH JACKSON:
My name is Staff Sergeant Keith Jackson. I'm at 31 Sierra. I'm an instructor at the Fort Gordon Communication School. As an instructor my job is to give lectures to the Soldiers so that they can fully understand the theory of the communication equipment that they will be working. My job also is to take them into the labs so that they get hands on knowledge of the equipment as well.

SSG JAVIER LIERAS:
I have the style of teaching a bit more like a football coach. I kind of teach first classroom environment, I show slides, we go over books, lessons, Training Manuals and then after that I actually bring them out and do hands on. I am always on them, always expect the best from them and give them that type of realistic training because I believe they ought to fail here???not in the battlefield.

SSG THILO RUPPRECHT:
In Basic Training—just as the word suggests—all they're getting is just the basic Soldiering skills. But here during the Advanced Individual Training emphases is put on the specialty that the Soldiers are here to train for and this is where we come in just to basically transform that Soldier into a fully skilled performer. As a 31 Uniform, I have pretty much been with combat arms units to include armor and infantry. I use my experiences I've combined that with the training here to give the trainee an understanding of how this equipment and the training that they complete here plays a role out on the battlefield.
